West Bend East High School
Nicolet High School
The West Bend East Suns survived the Rain and a strong performance from Nicolet to defeat the Knights by a final of 26-10. The suns were led on the ground once again by Kyle Yochem who continues to add touchdowns to his season total.
The Suns started off the scoring late in the first 1st quarter to take a 7-0 lead. The Knights took advantage of some Suns Turnovers in the 1st quarter to tie the game at 7 after 1. In the 2nd quarter, the Knights once again we able to create East turnovers and eventually drove down the field, but some penalties cost the Knights touchdown opportunities and they had to settle for a FG with just over 2 minutes to play in the 1st half. Trialing 10-7, Tony Bland and the Suns went to work with a meticulous drive spanning 60 yards. Caleb Knoll was able to connect on a 42 yard FG as time expired in the 1st half to knot the game at 10.
In the 2nd half, the Suns took the first drive and marched down the field which was capped off by a Yochem TD run. The Suns defense was able to make adjustments and slow down the Knights running attack. Yochem added a TD late to put the game out of reach for the Suns as they walked away with a 26-10 victory.
The victory pushes the Suns record to 4-4 on the year and 4-4 in the North Shore Conference. The Knights from Nicolet fell to 0-8.
The Suns will be back in action on Friday October 13th for a 7pm homecoming kick off against the West Spartans. The Suns can clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2011 with a victory on Friday.
Just a reminder that homecoming festivities kickoff at 4pm with the parade followed by the Homecoming tailgate sponsored by Texas Roadhouse. Come out and support the Suns and Spartans on Friday
