- Tell me a little about yourself?
I was born in Chicago, but do not worry because I always loved the Packers! My family moved to Milwaukee because of my father’s job. You have heard the old song, “Son of a Preacher Man,” that is me! I went to John Marshall High School in Milwaukee and graduated in 19…… (you do not need to know that)! There is where I met my wife Lee (once again I ask you to remember the lyrics to the mentioned song). I joined the Air Force right out of high school and spent 27 wonderful years serving the country that I love so much. In the service, I started coaching and kept doing so after I retired. I have and still do coach, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and of course golf!
- Why do you coach?
Because of the kids! I love to watch them grow and gain confidence in their sport. I love to use sports as a steppingstone in school and life. Teaching them how to work with others, handle all kinds of pressure, and to always be the best that they can be.
- What are your hobbies?
Whatever my wife tells me! “Happy Wife, Happy Life!” When I do have free time, I enjoy my golf and doing as much traveling as I can. My goal is to play every golf course in Wisconsin and then start on another state.
- Tell us about your family?
Besides my wife Lee and I, we were blessed with 7, yes, I said 7 children. Jessica was one of the best outside hitters in the nation and played Division I volleyball at Missouri State. She has 3 beautiful daughters. Jim was recruited by Michigan to play baseball, but for some reason he decided to go into the Air Force (go figure). He has been in 23 years. He has 3 wonderful sons, one of which also enlisted in the Air Force. Is there a pattern here? Nathan was a little guy, 6’9 ½ inches tall. He played collegiate basketball in Iowa. He has 5 kids. Elias, another short guy 6’7”, played collegiate basketball and golf here in Wisconsin. Abigail played collegiate volleyball and basketball in Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she was the leading scorer in the state. She has a son and a daughter on the way. Hannah also played collegiate volleyball and basketball. Timothy, 6’8”, played collegiate basketball and golf in Wisconsin.
- What do you like best about West Bend East?
Being the new kid on the block I am not in the loop yet with the doings at West Bend East, but as a former outsider looking in, I really like what I see in the staff and the kids (parents too)!!
- A funny story about you?
Too many to tell but I promise you this, there will be lots during the season.
- What you are doing during these trying times to stay entertained and continue some normalcy?
My wife is currently working from home, so it is very nice having her around 24/7. We spend our time, when she is not working, watching the news to help keep us informed as to what is going on. We also have a movie night each day and I enjoy that very much. I also cannot forget to mention that we care of our 160-pound baby, Copper. He is a fun-loving Saint Bernard that always must be around us and being petted.
- Some advice to students during these times.
Stay Healthy! Use this time to get closer with your family. You only have them for a small period in your life and you should make every hour count. Also, read a book or learn something new. This will help keep your mind fresh. NO VIDEO GAMES (at least not all the time)!
