West Bend East knocked off a veteran Hartford squad 5-2 on Thursday and Friday. The match began on Thursday amidst cloudy skies, and only Alex Schaetz was able to finish his match before the skies opened. While Schaetz won by a dominant score, the quality of points was strong from both Schaetz and Hartford’s Tanner Brault. With the match up in the air, East hitched a ride on the girls’ softball bus and returned to the land of the Orioles. The freshman tandem of Schmidt and Marris won five of the seven games played to give East a second win at three doubles, and the team match was decided by wins at four singles by Preston Renier and a three set win at two doubles by Aidan Schmidt and Nathan Meyer (in their first match together).
Conklin and Ketter got off to a slow start before picking up steam at the end of the match and dropped the decision at one doubles, and Trey Larson played a tremendous end of the second set and tiebreaker before dropping the third set at three singles.
The match of the day was at two singles. After Dylan Polster dropped the first set on Thursday, he stormed back to win both sets and the match on Friday. The match included both gentlemen attacking the net and and playing strong offense and defense.
The County Meet for Saturday has been cancelled; the Suns return to the court, weather permitting, on Monday against a very strong Brookfield Central squad.
