The Suns upped their record to 3-2 with a solid win over the Port Washington Pirates on Tuesday in West Bend. East won the singles matches in relatively short fashion, as Port Washington was short-handed due to illness and injury. Schaetz, Polster, Larson, and Schmidt played clean tennis and took care of business.
The doubles matches were all very competitive, however. The one and two doubles match followed a script. After East won the first set, the Pirates battled back for second set victories. In both cases, however, the East tandems came back strong in the decisive third sets. At one doubles, Christian Ketter and Michael Conklin regained their aggressiveness and controlled the net. Nathan Meyer served out the final game of he and Preston Renier’s match with confidence and control. And at three doubles Owen Schmidt and Steven Marris finished out two close sets to gain a crucial victory.
The Suns travel to Hartford on Thursday for what promises to be a very competitive match.
