Boys Varsity Tennis · Boys Varsity Tennis finishes 3rd place at Invitational @ Lincoln Park-Manitowoc

  Place Points
West Bend East High School 3rd 1

The West Bend East boys tennis team went 2-1 on Saturday and took third place at the Manitowoc Lincoln boys tennis tournament. It was a strong showing for the group, eight of whom had never played a varsity match. Gaining their first varsity wins were Trey Larson, Aidan Schmidt, Michael Conklin, Nathan Meyer, Christian Ketter, Preston Renier, Owen Schmidt, and Steven Marris.

East advanced into the winner’s side of the draw by defeating Manitowoc Lincoln in a close 5-2 decision. The match was decided by supertiebreak victories belonging to the two doubles team of Conklin and Meyer and the singles play of Preston Renier.

The semifinal could not have been a closer team match. The teams split the singles matches, with Alex Schaetz (three wins on the day) and Dylan Polster picking up impressive victories. Aidan Schmidt played a tremendous match in a losing effort at 4 singles. In the doubles, the Prairie School gained the victory with a 2-1 edge.

In the final, the team recovered from the disappointment of the close loss to play very well against Kenosha Tremper. Renier and Meyer both won their third matches of the day in supertiebreak fashion, and Trey Larson outlasted his three singles opponent in a marathon match.

The Suns are back in action on Thursday in Germantown.
