The East Suns kicked off the wrestling season with a big win at Whitefish Bay on Thursday night. JV wrestlers went 6-0 on the night. Sophomores Aden Orth, Caden Rummel, Dom Champagne and Victor Serrano and Junior Matthew Schellinger and Freshman Tyson Renken recorded wins for the Suns on JV. Orth, Rummel and Champagne all won by fall. This was the very first wrestling match for Champagne, Schellinger and Serrano and they were up to the challenge.
On varsity, there were only (3) actual matches wrestled. Sophomore Darrin Parve at 113 kicked things off with an impressive performance pinning is opponent in the second period after first recording (2) takedowns, (2) 3-point nearfalls and a reversal. Sophomore Jordan Ward at 138 kept the ball rolling with a pin in the first period. To close out the dual, Junior Damian Zapata at 145 defeated his opponent 8-3 recording (3) takedowns and (2) escapes.
The following wrestlers received forfeits for the Suns: Sophomore Cael Pionkowski at 106, Junior Dan Ciriacks at 126, Junior Cayden Henschel at 132, Sophomore Crosby Schlosser at 152, Senior Cooper Schlosser at 160, Senior Nathan Brockman at 182, Junior Evan Smith at 220 and Sophomore Jake LaVanway at 285.
The Suns’ next action is Saturday at the very competitive Gunslinger Tournament at Slinger High School. Cooper Schlosser is sitting at 99 wins for his high school career and looking surpass the century mark at this event.
